Emily Myers of Clear Spring recently graduated from the University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering with a degree in chemical engineering.

Myers was involved in Alpha Omega Epsilon, the women's engineering society; Images, the official university tour guide organization; and AlChE, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. She also held a part-time on-campus job in the undergraduate admissions office.

Myers' future plans include a job with Cognizant, a consulting firm in New Jersey.

Myers is the daughter of Mark and Amy Myers of Clear Spring.



Amber Keck is attending her third year at Penn State University in State College, Pa. She attended Penn State Mont Alto during her freshman year.

Keck is studying statistics and psychology in her junior year. While at Mont Alto, she was named to the dean's list in the fall and spring semester.

This year as a sophomore, Keck was selected to the National Society of Collegian Scholars, and was in the top 20 percent of the sophomore class.

Keck is a 2009 graduate of Clear Spring High School, where she was co-valedictorian. She was in the National Honor Society with a 4.39 grade-point average. She is carrying a 3.75 grade-point average in college.

Keck is the daughter of Julie Taylor of Clear Spring, and the granddaughter of Artie and Sandie Barnhart of St. Thomas, Pa.



SALISBURY — Cara Wagaman recently was accepted into Kappa Delta Pi, the national education honor society, at Salisbury University.

Wagaman is a junior majoring in elementary education. She is a member of Phi Eta Sigma and the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement. She also is a dean's list student.

Wagaman is a 2009 graduate of Smithsburg High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Cassie Wagaman of Hagerstown.



COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. — James Spidel of St. Thomas, Pa., recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Spidel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in systems engineering management and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Spidel will report to Columbus (Miss.) Air Force Base for pilot training.

Spidel is a 2007 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa. He is the son of Jeff and Vickie Spidel of St. Thomas.



Ryan Lipella of Smithsburg graduated cum laude in December from the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Lipella majored in finance and real estate with a minor in criminal justice.      

Lipella was the recipient of the Woodrow Scholars Scholarship Award from the Moore School of Business. He was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, National Honor Society and National Dean's List. He also was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.     

Lipella has been accepted into the law program at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the fall semester.    

Lipella is a 2006 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown. He is the son of Ronald and JoAnn Lipella of Smithsburg.



Morgan Gish of Boonsboro was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Syracuse University.

She will be a senior this fall and is majoring in English and textual studies with a minor in public communications.

Lindsey Gish of Boonsboro was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Clemson University.

She will be a sophomore this fall and is majoring in biological sciences.

They are the daughters of Jeff and Yvonne Gish of Boonsboro.



BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Emily Potts of Hagerstown recently received a Master of Science degree from Lehigh University.

 

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Catherine Wolf of Hagerstown was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Lynn University.

Wolf is a sophomore in the College of Education.

Wolf is the daughter of Bruce and Kristin Wolf of Hagerstown.



LAMONI, Iowa — Melva Meminger of Greencastle, Pa., was named to the president's list for the spring term at Graceland University.



MARIETTA, Ohio — Danielle Magnus of Ranson, W.Va., recently graduated from Marietta College.

Magnus received a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing and finance.



ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Lindsay Myers of Mount Airy, Md., recently received a Master of Arts degree in teaching with a certification in secondary English from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Myers completed a master's project titled "Motivating the Reluctant Learner: A Study in Stimulating the Classroom Environment."



MILTON, Maine — Lorraine Dougherty of Middletown, Md., was named to the dean's list for the spring term at Curry College.



MEADVILLE, Pa. — Jeramie Parker of Middletown, Md., recently graduated from Allegheny College.

Parker received a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in religious studies.
