  15. Paul "Wex" Wechsler Nov. 5, 1928-June 16, 2012

Paul “Wex” Wechsler November 5, 1928 - June 16, 2012 Former Glendale resident Paul “Wex” Wechsler died peacefully at his home in La Jolla on June 16. He was 83. In 1946, he began his long association with Capitol Records, working first as a draftsman at the company's record-pressing factory in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he returned to Capitol, where his work earned him multiple U.S. patents, including one for the Automatic Record Press and another for an apparatus that facilitated the recycling of unsold and defective records. His innovations helped Capitol meet the extraordinary demand for its biggest stars, especially the Beatles. By 1966, Wex had moved his family to Glendale to manage Capitol's plant development. Wex retired from Capitol in 1989 to open WEXIT Engineering in Glendale, where he designed machinery for CD factories in every continent but Antarctica. He credited his success to his wife and business partner Jean. Together they raised six children and proudly saw all six graduate from college. In 2001 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She died the next year. Paul is survived by his six children - Curt, Kris, Mark, Eric, Kara and Karl - and their families, including six grandsons. Services will be private.
