Each season, between 13 and 22 new episodes of scripted shows (sitcoms and dramas) are produced for each network show (CW and all the other networks). With approximately 38 weeks in a season (Sept to May, not including summer) and only 22 new episodes, that means at least 16 regular season weeks will be repeats. Shows that do poorly in repeats sometimes share their timeslot with another show so that new episodes will air for 11 weeks in a row before taking a break and changing to a different show. Sometimes a special one time only program will air in place of a repeat of a regular show. Reality shows usually produce between 6 and 13 episodes and are usually scheduled each week with no break. More networks are providing mid-season shows or reality programming to fill months where reruns would normally air.
