Taste the gold medal winners from this year's competition at FUN Decanted.

FUN Decanted at Fairplex is an evening of food, wine, spirits, mirth and music — all for a good cause. The event takes place on Saturday, June 25, at the colorful and festive Wine & Spirits Marketplace inside Fairplex.

FUN Decanted is the official public introduction to gold medal winners from the 2011 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition.

“This is where you can get a first look at the winners and basically, it’s a really great party and we know how to throw great parties,” said Dale Coleman of the Los Angeles County Fair Assn.

Partygoers can hop from tasting bar to tasting bar to sample award-winning wines, beer and distilled beverages. The food menu includes palate cleansers and gourmet offerings from a small flotilla of food trucks. More than 150 wines from 70 different wineries — from Sonoma to Santa Barbara, Alsace to Argentina, and Bordeaux to British Columbia — will be poured.

Attendees can also sample many of the more than 200 distilled beverages that competed for top honors in the spirits portion of the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Do wine and spirits give you happy feet? Step outside, where a deejay will spin tunes under the Southern California night sky.

Admission is $50 a person, which includes tastings, entertainment and $10 in “food truck bucks” redeemable at any of the roving eateries parked outside the marketplace.

If you’re not sure what kind of beverage to pair with food truck fare, just ask one of the many industry experts who will be on hand.

Educational booths will provide a sneak preview of the more than 50 wine-education courses that will be offered at Fairplex during the L.A. County Fair Sept. 3 to Oct. 2.

Also on the agenda: a Saturday Night Chef Fight, in which Fairplex’s own David Teig will go sauté pan to sauté pan against challenger Julio Nascimiento, a Portugal-born chef with extensive experience in Europe.

If you’d like to take home a gold-medal-winning bottle of wine, place your bid at the silent auction. Artwork, guitars and Fairplex experiences will also be on the auction block.

The doors for FUN Decanted open at 6 p.m. and close four hours later. Learn more about FUN Decanted at www.fairplex.org.
