1. Sriracha leather at Plan Check, macrobiotic summer menu at M Cafe, Provencal dishes at Fig & Olive

Sriracha has hit Plan Check Kitchen and Bar in West L.A. If you thought it was good on ice cream or as a lollipop, what about Sriracha leather? Chef Ernesto Uchimura is putting a slice of Sriracha leather on his new SS PCB burger along with his regular ketchup leather. It's part of a new menu the restaurant created in collaboration with Stussy, the SoCal-based skate and lifestyle brand. The burger is made of Wagyu beef and includes the two leathers, habanero cheese, schmaltz onions, applewood-smoked bacon and pickles.

  5. More than one way to fillet a fish

Not to get all iconoclasty on you, but chefs are not gods; recipes are not sacred texts. If anything, recipes are guidelines, repositories of good ideas.

  11. Think Spring: Freshen up meals to taste the season

It’s the season for brighter, fresher flavors. The tangy sweetness of strawberries, the tender grassiness of just picked asparagus, the refreshing sharpness of sorrel and the spice of young garlic and onions are just what we’re longing for after the darker, heartier foods of winter.
