3. A Healthful, Flavorful Side Dish Of Pan-Roasted Broccoli And Cauliflower

Chris just spent a few days at a spa in Mexico where he taught a course on healthful eating. He found himself including more fresh vegetables in the recipes for the cooking classes and, at meals, eating more veggies and whole grains than meat or poultry.

  5. Have a stress-free Passover dinner

Seder dinner may be the most beloved meal of the Jewish year, but it’s also the most daunting: All the elements must be ready to go — and then abandoned — for the hour or two it takes to get through the prayers, singing and stories in the first part of the seder.

  7. Destination Cocktail: Irish Poet by Gilbert Marquez

In a city that could be considered the melting pot of the world, it's only fitting that our pick for a St. Patrick's Day cocktail is Mexican. Created by mixologist Gilbert Marquez for Santa Monica's nouveau Mexican restaurant Mercado, the drink is called the Irish Poet. The spicy libation is fueled by the smoky flavor of mezcal, the heat of seeded poblano peppers, the zing of fresh lime juice and a lick of chipotle pepper-infused salt. Inspiration for the drink struck Marquez after a riotous tequila-drinking session with a loquacious Irishman in Mexico.

  13. Polenta with a backbeat

Machneyuda, the restaurant, sits outside Mahane Yehuda, the vibrant food market, in Jerusalem. It's small and loud and hip. My niece, an actual DJ at an actual college radio station, claims its pounding backbeat matches her iPod playlist. That hip.

  23. Dinner tonight! Shrimp and grits

It doesn't get much simpler than shrimp and grits, but Bar / Kitchen at the O Hotel takes this classic comfort food to new heights. Large Mexican shrimp are cooked in a rich creamy sauce spiced with minced Spanish Bilbao chorizo and a helping of Sriracha hot sauce. Spooned atop cheesy stone-ground grits, some might call it dinner. I call it heaven on a plate.
