2011 Ameztoi Rosé Getariako Txakolina "Rubentis" This rosé from the Spanish Basque country is something different. Grown on the hillside vineyards above the small fishing town of Getaria, the Ameztoi "Rubentis" is essentially a pink Txakolina made with a...

  3. Host a Mediterranean tapas party

A tapas party is a great way to introduce friends and family to the traditional Spanish style of casual eating based on small plates and small portions. This wildly popular trend featuring Mediterranean–style snacks and appetizers is beloved for its high style, rich variety and healthful ingredients. It also offers the perfect setup for the low–maintenance host. From finger foods like olives, cheese and small bocadillo sandwiches to the more elaborate manchego–stuffed piquillo peppers, tapas dishes range from almost no preparation to creative recipes that spark your inner chef. Pottery Barn designer Celia Tejada shows you how to create an ambience inspired by the rustic, outdoor style of her California wine country ranch, Tejada Vineyards. Her videos give step–by–step instructions in cooking tortilla Española and albondigas meatballs, family tapas recipes from her Pyrenees mountain village in Northern Spain, and a refreshing cocktail featuring her homemade limoncello liqueur. In your own home, the friendly, communal nature of tapas invites guests to contribute their own small plates and wines to create something more than just a party – a new way of eating and a global way of living.

  9. Fourth of July openings and closings

I kind of forgot that restaurants close on July Fourth. Like it's Christmas or something. But they do. Good brunch places like B&O Brasserie, Victoria Gastro Pub and Golden West are all closed on July Fourth. All of the municipal market, including Lexington Market, are closed, too.

  17. Counter Intelligence: LàOn Dining

For all of the hundreds of restaurants in L.A.'s Koreatown, tucked behind untranslated signs and inside barely marked skyscrapers, in sleek malls and dusty strip centers, the area has never had much in the way of recognizable chefs. Generations of Los Angeles Koreans and Korean Americans have been going to Ham Ji Park for pork ribs and to Masan for monkfish soup, to Ham Hung for cold buckwheat noodles and to Mountain for abalone porridge, but the cooks have been mostly behind the scenes. It's the owners who host banquets, sit on community boards and fatten the rolls of the chamber of commerce. In a restaurant culture most famous for 3 a.m. noodles and grill-your-own barbecue, there hasn't been much room for culinary celebrity.

  23. Host a sangria and tapas party

Nothing is more refreshing than sangria on a hot day. Spain's popular fruit–infused punch pairs perfectly with a variety of tapas, offering a palette of exciting flavors and textures for everyone to enjoy. Instead of gathering for a large meal at the table, imagine a more casual setup where small bites and quick refills allow guests — and the host — to mix and mingle with ease. This festive party is simple to pull together once you realize it's really just about two main components that offer so much variety, you can experiment with a new pairing each time you host.
