Alice L. Cleland, 80, of Traverse City, died peacefully and went to be with the Lord and Savior on Monday evening, Oct. 29, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1931, the daughter of William and Nettie Ockert. Alice had three brothers and five sisters.
Alice married her best friend, Allan Cleland, on Sept. 27, 1952, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Alice's family includes her husband, Allan Cleland, of Traverse City; her children, Janice Cleland, Sandy (James) Coil of Traverse City, Bob (Penny) Cleland of Petoskey, Bonnie (Art) Olsen, and Patrick (fiancee, Kari Lipinski) Cleland of Traverse City. She had nine grandchildren including Alyssa, Matthew and Benjamin Cleland of Petoskey, Kristen (Matt) Bauman, James (Jennifer) Coil, Jenna Coil, Maggie (Chad) Bigger, Sam Olsen and Katie Olsen. Alice and Allan have four great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by her sisters, Valita Boehnlein, Rita (Ray) Sedlacek and Theresa VanPelt, and sisters-in-law, Emma Ockert, Vivian Ockert and Marie Ockert.
Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. A vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Traverse City, with visitation one hour prior to the service and luncheon following the service.
In remembrance of Alice, memorials may be directed to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, Father Fred Foundation or Mass Intentions. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home or church.
