BOYNE CITY -- Lack of snow and warm temperatures have turned Boyne City's Winterfest into Slushfest.

The event takes place Saturday, Feb. 4, in downtown Boyne City.  Events centered around cross country skiing and snowshoeing have been canceled.

"We did think about moving it a week, but the weather doesn't look any better a week from now than it does now," said Jim Baumann, executive director of the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event will feature sidewalk sales all day. From 9 a.m.-noon are best shanty and snow sculpture contests in Sunset Park. Bricks of snow will be provided for the contest; register by calling the chamber at (231) 582-6222.

Cabin fever fly tying is 2-5 p.m. at Freshwater Studio, and wine tasting takes place 4-7 p.m. at the Wine Emporium and Market.

Kids games are slated 4-6 p.m. on the 200 block of Water Street, as well as a chili cook-off with tastings beginning at 5 p.m. Register for the cook-off by calling (231) 582-2355.

Stargazing, along with contests for the best suntan, coolest shades and best snow dance, will be 5-6 p.m. on Water Street. A scavenger hunt begins at 6 p.m. for teams of up to four people; call (231) 582-2355 to register.

The festival wraps up with Sean Ryan performing 8-11 p.m. at Cafe Sante.
