Bill Gallaher, of Boyne City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, with his family by his side, following several years of declining health with congestive heart failure. He was born June 11, 1943, to William and Florine (Richards) Gallaher, and was raised in Ann Arbor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Helen Tobey Gallaher; daughter, Sara Gallaher Smith; daughter, Jennifer (Dale) Hull; Bill's brother, Ronald (Nancy) Gallaher; niece, nephew, and many cousins.
Bill graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1961, plus higher education at Jackson Junior College and Eastern Michigan University. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged a decorated combat vet of the Vietnam conflict.
Bill then continued his career as a plumber with Local 190 Plumbers and Pipefitters for more than 35 years. During this time Bill and Helen raised two daughters and enjoyed golfing, fishing, softball, skiing and family vacations.
Bill and Helen retired in 1998 to their dream home in the woods by the shores of Lake Charlevoix. During his retirement years he enjoyed all outdoor summer and winter sports, part time courier work, volunteering, traveling and woodworking. He will be missed by many friends, neighbors and family.
Visitation, funeral and burial services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, at Nie Funeral Home in Ann Arbor. A memorial service in northwest Michigan will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, Charlevoix Area Humane Society, or charity of choice.
