  1. Searching The Ballot For Worthy Republicans

    The Hartford Courant
Let me tell you something you don't know about me. I'm itchin' to vote for a Republican. This is really true. I mostly vote Democratic, but it seems healthier to me to occasionally cast a vote the other way. I don't like being a knee-jerk Democrat. Or...

  3. Newark Mayor Cory Booker could enliven New Jersey governor's race

NEW YORK -- The 2012 presidential election is over, Ohio has certified its vote, even Rep. Allen West has conceded. So where’s a political junkie to turn his or her attention throughout the long, cold winter?

  5. Chris Christie and Jon Stewart spar over Obama-love, government aid

He smiled, he quipped that he felt like the friendly bartender, but Jon Stewart performed more like a relentless good cop. During a half-hour interview with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the late-night host pressed his subject like he was a friendly...

  7. GOP governors walk balance beam on health law

ATLANTA (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who made a fortune as a health care executive, long opposed President Barack Obama's remake of the health insurance market. After the Democratic president won re-election, the Republican governor softened his tone. He said he wanted to "have a conversation" with the administration about implementing the 2010 law. With a federal deadline approaching, he also said while Florida won't set up the exchange for individuals to buy private insurance policies, the feds can do it.

  9. Here's one last look at the year's top stories

Reading all these year-in-review recaps has left me a little groggy, so forgive me if my own look at 2012's top stories veers in and out of reality. January Eyebrows raised when developers announce new hockey arena will be called The Heather Browne...

  11. Column: What to expect in 2013

A year ago, we predicted President Barack Obama would edge Mitt Romney 48-47 with 286 electoral votes, plus we’d get a Democratic Senate and Republican House; the numbers were a bit off, but who’s counting?  So plunging past the fiscal...

  13. A hidden side of Honey Boo Boo

It was hardly surprising for Time magazine to choose President Barack Obama to be its "Person of the Year." But for a new face that represents the spirit of these times, I believe a serious argument can be made for Alana Thompson, better known to many as TLC's pint-sized reality TV star, Honey Boo Boo.

John Fritze's recent article on the appointment of U.S. Magistrate Paul W. Grimm to a U.S. District Court seat ("Senate confirms Towson resident Grimm for U.S. judgeship," Dec. 4) reported the key point: Senate gridlock delayed action even though Paul...

  23. Minimum wage in NJ could increase from $7.25 to $8.50

If you live in New Jersey, you may be getting a raise. Thousands of minimum wage workers could see their hourly rate jump $1.25, from 7.25 to $8.50 under a bill passed by the state legislature. The Democratic controlled senate voted along party lines Thursday for the increase but Republican Governor Chris Christie could veto it.
