7. Campaign rules for federal employees get an update

Even as Congress and the White House appeared to be at a standoff over the fiscal cliff last month, lawmakers and the president were able to agree on at least one thing: an update of the Hatch Act.

  9. 2/10/2013-Malloy's Snow Job

There are a ton of cartoons in Gov. Malloy's budget. A reader called me this week and pointed out that the governor is giving the state workers a raise and continues the promise not to lay off anybody because the state workers are the ones who voted him into office. The point being that everybody knows what a rotten one-sided budget this is. It would be easier to take if the coddled state workers weren't getting more money. We're all in this together? Not really.

  19. The Leopold case: bad behavior, vague crimes

Circuit Judge Dennis M. Sweeney today found Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold guilty on two counts of misconduct for using his executive security detail for personal and political gain. Reports of his sexual escapades and urinary malfunctions have filled the public with disgust. I've attended every day of the trial. Most remarkable for me is the vague law on which the indictment against Mr. Leopold was based.
