    He paid the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved--helping others. Saturday, the Boones Mill firefighter who was killed while trying to rescue a motorist during last week's storm, was remembered during his funeral service in at Franklin Heights Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. John Echternach's widow Debbie called the service a celebration of her husband's life. There were moments of laughter, tears and reflections. “I'm sure you all are in shock as we are as we desperately try to sort through all of the emotions and search for meaning why would God take John from us so soon”, she said.
