Duty is calling for "JoJo the Ape" at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The 31-year-old silverback gorilla will be moved from there on Tuesday, and taken to the Brookfield Zoo. Simply put, he will go to the Brookfield Zoo to procreate. There are three females he...

  3. Mustard mystery lingers

Q: Growing up in Old Town back in the late 1950s and early 1960s meant numerous trips to the North Avenue beach and Lincoln Park Zoo, among other places, and eating cotton candy and hot dogs. I remember the hot dogs at Café Brauer at the zoo came with only one condiment — mustard — that I believe came in gallon jugs with a pump. Try as I might, I have been unable to find who made it. Would you be able to find out who that was? Are they still around?

  7. Congo Park Expanded to Protect Chimpanzees

The Republic of Congo has formally expanded Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park to protect an increasingly rare treasure: one of Africa’s most pristine forests and a population of “naive” chimpanzees with so little exposure to humans that the curious apes investigate the conservationists who study them rather than run away.

  21. Gorilla Habitat Larger Than Previously Thought

Conservationists working in Central Africa to save the world’s rarest gorilla have good news: the Cross River gorilla has more suitable habitat than previously thought, including vital corridors that, if protected, can help the great apes move between sites in search of mates, according to the North Carolina Zoo, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and other groups.
