Constance Loraine Grace Powell, 84, Sturgis, died Saturday, January 05, 2013 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Henrique Fleming officiating. Inturnment follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the Grace Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Connie was born March 5, 1928 at Lead, SD, to Lawrence and Lora (Branch) Aga. She was raised on ranches around Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School. She was employed by several Sturgis businesses before marrying Clyde M. Patterson. To this union, six children were born.

Connie married Tom Newton Powell on August 1, 1967 in Belle Fourche. Connie worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a secretary. She worked other odd jobs, and her and Tom ran several businesses together in South Dakota, Arkansas, and Montana, including body shops in South Dakota and Arkansas and a roadside diner in Montana. The couple retired and settled in Newell, SD and in 2009 they moved to Sturgis.

Connie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in the Bible study group. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts including: painting, crocheting rugs, quilting, and wood carving. She enjoyed cards, especially pinochle and she liked to sing. She enjoyed reading, writing stories and poems, and fishing. Her and Tom liked to travel together and went on many adventures.

Survivors include her sons, Paul (Helen) Patterson, Belle Fourche, William (Judy) Patterson, Houston, TX, Jesse (Gail) Patterson, Mt. Home, AR; daughters, Cynthia Eide, Sturgis, Victoria (David) Saulsbury, Colstrip, MT; step children, William Powell, CA, Leigh Powell, Omaha, NE, Vicki (Dan) Nolan, Bull Shoals, AR, Connie Sue (Perry) Daniels, Fort Jones, CA; sisters, Eva (Teddy) Sigman, Carolynn Erickson and brother Raymond (Annabel) Aga all of Sturgis; also 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Joyce; one brother, Marvin; one son, James; and one step-grandson.
