Chan Lowe: Patte Atkins-Grad hangs on

I’ve lived in South Florida for almost 29 years, and I have to admit I’m not exactly sure where Tamarac is. I would wager a lot of other South Floridians—even Broward County residents—don’t know, either. If you held our feet to the fire, we might guess it’s part of the sprawl somewhere out there between the turnpike and the swamp. I did hear once that the developer who founded the place made his fortune up north with something called “Caramat,” so he simply reversed the name.
