  1. UVA falls to South Carolina

    The Virginia Cavaliers lost to South Carolina at the College World Series 7 to 1.  The start of the game was delayed by over an hour due to bad weather in the Omaha, NE area.  The late start might have affected the Wahoos as they gave up three runs in the top of the first, but all three runs were unearned.

    The Virginia baseball team started the 2011 College World Series strong with a 4-1 victory over California on Sunday afternoon in front of 21,275 spectators at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. Virginia (55-10) advances into the winners' bracket to play the winner of the Sunday evening South Carolina-Texas A&M game at 7 p.m. Tuesday (ET) on ESPN.

         More than half of Virginia's roster was around in 2009 when the Cavaliers made the College World Series and went to Omaha.  UVA went just 1 and 2 in that tournament, but is hoping the experience factor is a difference maker this year as they battle for a national baseball title.

  9. Virginia Advances to College World Series in Dramatic Fashion

          Down to their last strike and their last out in the super regional finale against UC Irvine, Virginia hung tough.  The Cavaliers trailed 2-1 in the ninth, but loaded the bases for Chris Taylor who hit a single back up the middle, scoring Mitchell Shiflett and Corey Hunt to win it 3-2.  The Cavaliers advance to Omaha for the College World Series for the second time in three years with their school record 54th win of the season.  Next up, a date with California on Sunday afternoon at 2pm in Nebraska.

  17. UVA's Hultzen Selected Second Overall in Big League Draft by Seattle

          UVA's ace pitcher Danny Hultzen was the 2nd overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday.  Hultzen went to the Seattle Mariners.   Hultzen has an 11 and 3 record this season with an earned run average of 1.57 to go with a whopping 148 strikeouts on the year.  He hopes to lead the Cavaliers to the College World Series later this week in the super regionals of the NCAA Tournament.

    The University of Virginia Baseball team has had a fantastic season thus far.  The Cavaliers entered the NCAA Tournament as the top seed and have advanced to the Super Regional where they will face UC Irvine.  The Cavaliers have been to the College World Series once before, that came two seasons ago.  But when UVA advanced to Omaha they won their Super Regional on the road.  Virginia has never won a Super Regional that they hosted; a year ago they lost to Oklahoma in a deciding Game 3.

         The Cavaliers beat the Red Storm 10 to 2 behind a strong pitching performance from Danny Hultzen.  The lefty allowed just three hits while the Cavaliers' offense continued its torrid pace.  Steven Proscia started things with a 2-run homerun in the first inning and Brian O'Connor's team never looked back.  Next up, a date with either Saint John's again or East Carolina Sunday night at6pm.

         The Virginia Cavaliers scored 5 runs in the second inning against East Carolina on Sunday night and cruised to a 13 to 1 win over the Pirates.  It was UVA's 51st win of the season, and now Brian O'Connor's team has advanced to the super regional round for the third consecutive season.
