11. The Nature of Things: Two films explore fundamental questions

A brutal attack in the dead of night—the recurring nightmare of Henry (Rick Gomez), a successful novelist with a loving wife (Vinessa Shaw). After a farewell party thrown by his publisher (Bryan Cranston), Henry goes into isolation at his remote second home to try to turn his anxieties into fiction. Then a seemingly chance meeting with a mysterious drifter (Frank John Hughes) at a roadside restaurant offers a revelation that, if trusted, might be life-altering. But is the man who he claims to be?

  13. Our Picks: 3 great "open air" art exhibits showing this week

En plein air literally translates to "in the open air," referring to painters who practice their craft in the great outdoors instead of in the controlled-environment of a studio. There are a few exhibits in Fairfield County galleries right now that feature such works, and with the mercury rising as of laste, we might as well do as much as we can en plein air for a while.

  15. More Good Vibes at Seaside Park

We already knew that Gathering of the Vibes was going to feature ex-Grateful Dead members. But now the official lineup has been announced and the exact (re)incarnations are no longer a mystery. There's no Furthur or Rhythm Devils as there had been the past two years. This time we're getting each ex-Dead member with his own respective project: Phil Lesh and Friends (for the first time since 2008), Bob Weir and Bruce Hornsby with Branford Marsalis (that should be interesting), Mickey Hart Band (who are also playing the Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, April 13) and 7 Walkers (featuring the other drummer, Bill Kreutzmann). Of course, there will probably be some cross pollination depending on how schedules align.

  17. Ghost Whisperer: Medium James Van Praagh calls upon spirits at The Ridgefield Playhouse on April 5

James Van Praagh calls himself a survival evidence medium, which if true means that he's a lot like Whoopi Goldberg's character in Ghost, feeling the emotions and personalities of the deceased —and seeing 'em too. The TV show "Ghost Whisperer" was based on his abilities, and he was a consultant on the set (see photo, with the lovely Jennifer Love Hewitt). On Thursday, he'll attempt to prove his claims at the Ridgefield Playhouse by selecting audience members to participate in the calling of spirits. And then he'll sign his new books, Unfinished Business, Ghosts Among us and Growing Up in Heaven. Whether you're a believer looking for comfort or a skeptic who's angered by the believers naivete, chances are you'll be entertained in some form or another by this event.

  23. Local goat dairies aren't kidding around

Chances are you've had goat cheese. Maybe you've even called it chevre. A staple of gallery reception spreads, of beginner's level savory tarts, and of early-20-something stabs at culinary adulthood, generally speaking, goat cheese makes food nerds and newbs alike get all psyched in the fancy cheese section (next to the olives) or the dairy section (by the yogurt) or at the farmer's market or even the specialty cheese store (once they've advanced to some next-level maneuvers in the kitchen).
