  17. Book deals from blogs

In years past, the only way to secure a book deal was to send out manuscripts and hope for the best. But recently, a handful of book deals have materialized for bloggers, including from the blog-platform, Tumblr, which emphasizes images and video over text. Such was precisely what occurred for Joe Mande, curator of the popular blog with an f-word in its title but known as LATFH, with the book version of his blog due for release in the spring of 2010 from St. Martin's Press. The blog, often referred to as LATFH, features laughable photographs of "hipsters" styled in the latest, posing at parties and events (and self-serious as can be), complete with accompanied by brief, funny comments and titles as supplied by Mande poking fun at the photographs, or, more accurately, their subjects.
