He is a retired Master Sergeant in the Air Force, which is the highest rank you can be other than an officer.

"For his service to the American Legion and to the Community and for the United States because he retired from the Airforce after thirty one years," says Herman Chaney with the American Legion Post 6 in Rocky Mount.

Santrok served in both Vietnam and Korea and has been with Post Six in Franklin County for 32 years.

Santrok has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
