Uptown—A bizarre and alarming Uptown crime involves a slasher on a bike, and it has the attention of Tulane University.
New Orleans cops last month sent out a computer image representing a bike-riding man wanted for slashing the arm of a dog walker before demanding that man's wallet and pedaled off, an incident that prompted the school to work with the NOPD to increase off-campus patrols in the Uptown area of concern, according to campus police.
Calhoun and South Robertson Street, around 10am on Monday, July 23rd: it's when cops say the bald-headed, bearded robber rode up and wielded his blade, slicing into that victim's arm.
Second district detectives haven't released the extent of the injuries.
After the attack, Tulane University sent out a crime alert, warning its students of the incident, which involved a victim who was not a student according to the University's bulletin.
Students tell WGNO, they've noticed more patrols in their area since the robbery.
That suspect is described as a thin, African American man in his late 20's to early 30's and standing between 5'8" to 5'10" with a bald head and beard.
He wore a white t-shirt, black denim shorts and black sneakers with red trim, according to police.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts or identity of the robber is being asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
