Indoor sunless tanning is something that has been done for years, especially by women. Recently there has been a lot more discussion about it with the topic of vitamin D. Researches at various universities across the country claim that UV rays are a very important source of vitamin d naturally. Studies suggest that many people are deficient in vitamin D and tanning and UV indoor tanning and out is a way to give you vitamin d naturally.
There are two different types of rays. UVB rays stimulate the melanin in your skin. UVA rays tan that melanin. UVB is your source of vitamin d naturally.
Angela at Eurotan says both rays are ok in moderation.
"When you burn that is not a good thing. Skin cancer comes from overexposure to these rays. That is why you need to go to one that is knowledgeable that gives you all the information that you need in order to tan correctly."
Angela says, "All tanning beds give you UVA and UVB in different moderations. Most lay down and stand up beds are low pressure beds. The bulbs are different than high pressure beds. They look more like a fluorescent bulb and what it does is it has a 4-5% of UVB, the rest is UVA. The UVB you need to have in order to stimulate the melanin in your skin. The UVA is what tans you then. Once you get into a high pressure bed lay down or stand up, high pressures are small bulbs and they are called high pressure due to the gas that they reduce. What happens is the film that is over the bulb that says how much UVA and UVB are coming thru the bulb to give you that high pressure tan. In a high pressure bed most have about 1% UVB they have more UVA. So ideally you want to be in a tanning bed or outside within 2-3 times during the week before going into the high pressure bed, what the high pressure bed does is increases your amount of tan."
