The Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce has named Ed Mastrean Citizen of the Year for his long-time work in the community. Mastrean serves on the boards of several organizations including the Clark Regional Foundation for the Promotion of Health. He also was instrumental in the opening of Rose Mary C. Brooks Place in Winchester.
As is its tradition, the chamber recognized several of its members for their work in the community Thursday at its annual awards banquet.
Without the contributions of small businesses, communities couldn’t survive, Executive Director Cindy Banks told the more than 300 business owners and their employees gathered for the chamber’s largest fundraiser of the year.
“It’s all of you and what you do in the community that make Winchester and Clark County the great place to live that it is today,” Banks said.
Banks read from a letter of recommendation for Mastrean when she announced the award: “Ed works tirelessly for the community and gives from the heart, wanting no recognition or attention ... even in retirement. … Winchester and Clark County have seen some tremendous growth the past few years, and Ed has spent hours and hours making sure that Clark County’s interests are protected in that growth.”
Others award winners were:
— Business of the Year, Clark Regional Medical Center -Lifepoint
— Volunteer of the Year, Tammy Moberly
— Partners in Education Partner of the Year, Craft Nook and owners Dave and Sue Mullen.
— Director of the Year, Nick Comer
Local singer Lauren Mink provided the music for the event, and before the awards ceremony, the chamber recognized her for her performance on national television on American Idol, and for the her representation of Clark County and the STRIDE program on the show.
Several members also were honored for their volunteer efforts and commitment to serving others in the community.
