A Stuart man has been charged with driving under the influence in a two-car crash that killed another Stuart man Thursday evening in Henry County.
Alfonzo Hughes, 64, has been charged in the accident that killed 29-year-old Joshua Young. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 58 and Route 695 around 6:40 p.m. Thursday in Henry County.
Virginia State Police say Young was driving a 1999 Dodge Stratus on Route 695 when he pulled out onto Route 58. Young’s Dodge Stratus was hit by Hughes’ 1993 Nissan Maxima, which was headed west on Route 58.
Young was wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hughes was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. It’s not clear whether or not he was wearing a seat belt. A passenger in Hughes’ car, Kevin Rucker, was also taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville for treatment. It’s also not clear if Rucker, 30, was wearing a seat belt.
