With a week of training camp in the books, uva held it's annual football media day today. Karen Loftus has more from Charlottesville on the 2014 Cavaliers' squad. Karen Loftus, @kcloftus, "After final mark of 2 and 10 year and a winless campaign in the acc in 2013, Virginia's football team was picked to finish last in the Coastal Division this season-- something that's fueling the Cavaliers to out-perform the rankings." Mike London, uva Head Football Coach, "Th motivation is getting better, executing, performing, production. The motivation is we're not satisfied with what happened last season. We don't talk about last season because we know the challenges that are ahead of us now." Eli Harold, Junior Defensive End, "You'r always going to have motivation, whether it's positive or negative from what other people say or do but i would say yes, we have a lot of pressure on us. Obviously we want Coach London to stay here and in order for him to stay we have to perform to the best of our abilities." Much of the talk this offseason about uva football has been about the uphill battle they'll have with an incredibly difficult schedule, but the Cavaliers are eager to match-up against some of the best teams in the Nation. Kevin Parks, Senior Tailback, "i don't car if we put an nfl team in front of us. I'm ready to go play. i feel like most guys on our team, they don't care who's out there. They just want to play." Zach Swanson, Senior Tight End, "I'm excited fo this season, just for the sole fact that i can have opportunities to play against some of the best players in the country and i can test myself. You get the opportunity to prove what am i worth." The Cavaliers will rely heavily on Kevin Parks, Darius Jennings, and Greyson Lambert to carry their offense, but with a bunch of new faces on the offensive line, the concern is getting those play-makers the time and space to be productive. Steve Fairchild, uva Offensive Coordinator, "The offensive line we obviously lost two very good players. Them, like everybody, we've got to improve from last year's performance. We're going to be young there and that's probably as critical to our success is how far we can get those guys to progress." On the other side of the ball, UVA's looking to Senior All-American Safety, Anthony Harris and Eli Harold to lead the way among their 9 returning starters on defense. Eli Harold, "We fee we're more fast. When you know what you're doing you're obviously going to be a lot faster and being a veteran on the team, helping guys out." Demetrious Nicholson, Senior Cornerback, "Yo can definitely see guys flying around, not thinking as much, not hesitating. We all know what's expected from us from Coach Tenuta." Karen Loftus, "uva' first test comes in just 3 weeks when they open their season at home Saturday August 30th against ucla-- the 7th ranked team in the Nation in the preseason polls. In Charlottesville, Karen Loftus, wdbj7."
