I'm Nadia Singh. Residents of a Danville apartment complex are picking up the pieces after a drunk driver crashed into the building causing an explosion. wdbj7's Frankie Jupiter is back from Danville and has the details. Luckily no one was killed as a result of this drunk driver. As an apartment complex filled with gas, ignited. Words can't describe the feeling that comes over me when i heard all the commotion. Melba Hodnett describes the frantic moments when her 76-year- old mother called and said there had been an explosion at her apartment. She's pretty banged up, bruised up, she got several deep lacerations. They had to take some glass out of her. Early Saturday morning Danville resident James Barksdale, who was driving drunk, slammed into the Royal Terrace Apartments. As a result, several gas lines were severed and the gas quickly spread through the apartments. That's when chaotic door knocking began by neighbors. And just minutes later... You could feel it and everything. Then you can see smoke just pouring out, pouring out and i was like what happened. The gas ignited, shattering windows, blasting bricks and throwing debris. Videl Pizzino sat outside with her arms bandaged. She waited as fire crews helped to salvage family photos. She was injured when the explosion shattered the windows of her suv as she stood nearby but is grateful to be alive. No one lost their life. i mean everyone managed to get out, relatively safe and alive and thats amazing. It's also important to mention that Barksdale was driving on a revoked license. Six people were transported to Danville Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. As of now 14 residents have been displaced. The building sustain a half million dollars worth of damges. Frankie Jupiter wdbj7.
