Humane Society is trying to win big money in a national contest. They're competing in the 100-thousand dollar challenge, sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There are several levels to the contest and the Lynchburg Humane Society has already taken the top prize in one round. a few weeks ago they won a 5- thousand dollar grant by getting the most votes in a photo contest. Today, they need your votes again to win a 25-thousand dollar community engagement grant. Makena Yarbrough/Executive Director: "It's going t go a long way to help animals here at the Lynchburg Humane Society, but also enable us to continue bringing in pets from the other pounds in the area, so we can save more lives." Voting for the community engagement award runs through August 31st. So far Lynchburg is leading all of the other cities in the competition.
