meditation and relaxation -- all what make yoga a healthy activity. wdbj7 Mornin's Alison Parker is live at the Yoga Center in Roanoke to show us how it works. You may normally think of exercise as a fast-paced, upbeat activity. Yoga is the complete opposite -- and great for anyone. I'm here with Debbie Stevens, owner of The Yoga Center. First, what is yoga, and when did it originate? (It's a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.) What kind of movements are involved in the exercise? How do these movements challenge the body? There are different types of yoga as well? (Basic yoga allows you to learn the basic poses and system of yoga; power yoga incorporates pushups, toe touches, handstands; There's yoga geared toward healthy and spiritual living; restorative yoga focuses on relaxation; and other forms of yoga incporate diet restrictions and other lifestyle changes.) Coming up, we'll talk about how yoga can improve your performance in the work place, or at school.
