BEDFORD COUNTY, Va.
State police have identified the man killed in crash on Route 24 Thursday afternoon.
Troopers say Dale Ridgeway, 60, was driving west near Route 635 when his convertible ran off the road and hit several logs and an embankment, before flipping over.
Ridgeway was from Moneta. He was pronounced dead that scene.
Route 24 reopened just after 4:00 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The accident was in the Goodview area.
Virginia State Police have confirmed that someone was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Route 24 in Bedford County.
The accident is about a half-mile from Stewartsville Elementary School, and two miles east of Jordantown Road (State Route 619).
Both directions of traffic are closed in the area. Detours are in place. Eastbound traffic is being sent to Route 619, then to Route 635, before being routed back to Route 24. Westbound traffic is being detoured onto Route 635, then onto Route 619, before being routed back to Route 24.
Last month, three teenagers were killed in two separate wrecks on Route 24 in Bedford County. The three teenagers were Staunton River High School students.
Both directions of Route 24 in Bedford County are closed in one area because of an accident.
The accident is near Ross Road, about six miles east of Vinton.
