The school board says a parent told their child before school Tuesday morning that something was going on.

The parent had heard that someone might show up at Pulaski Middle School on Tuesday, ready to hurt people.

That student told a staff member at Pulaski Middle School, which in turn immediately called police.

Around noon the notification was posted on the Pulaski County Schools' Facebook page that Pulaski and Critzer Elementary, along with Pulaski Middle school were all on "internal preventative lockdown for extra precautions."

We watched as a long line of cars began streaming into Pulaski Middle.

“I just heard there was a lockdown that they thought something was wrong or something and I'm just here to get my granddaughter because I'm afraid," Carol Haga said.

Some parents were mad they weren't notified by phone. The school board says it only does that when it needs parents to take action. In this case, officials say the students were never in any harm, so the phone notification system wasn't used.

Three Pulaski County schools are on lockdown.

Superintendent Thomas Brewster tells WDBJ7 that a student overheard his parent say something, and that student reached out to school staff.

The school system then put Pulaski Middle School, Pulaski Elementary School, and Critzer Elementary School on lockdown.

It's not clear what the nature of the conversation was.

Brewster says the lockdown has not reached the level of moving students away from windows.
