A multi-vehicle accident is causing major delays on Interstate 81 in Salem.
The accident is near mile marker 137 on Interstate 81 North.
The north left shoulder and left lane are closed.
Traffic is backed up about nine miles.
i drive this interstate every day now for the past 3 years, and i never saw it this busy on a fri, lets not forget interstate 81 is built for the traffic back in the 1970s, it can not handle the traffic today,when everyone gets in a bundle something bad is bound to happen, vdot must make upgrades and more lanes to handle the higher population growth.hold va accountable for all wrecks for they are not compensating for the population growth,its only going to get worse...
Amazing how many idiots that are out there masquerading as drivers; following too closely, no signals, texting, eating, speeding. What can we expect? And not all of the culprits are teenage girls, most of them are but not all.
Drove thru there earlier this afternoon and there was a high amount of traffic and the out-of-state cars were jumping lanes with very little clearance!! And of course sometimes NO signal either! What did they learn in driving school??!! I kept telling my husband those people were going to cause an accident. I was very happy to return home safely.
Hope no one was hurt.
