Tuesday, March 27th, NASA launched 5 rockets from Wallop's Island on Virginia's eastern shore to study the upper-level jet stream 60 miles above the earth. The rockets forced clouds to form so NASA's cameras in New Jersey, Virginia and North Carolina could track the winds speed. These are a few photos shared by NASA.
As a cold front pushes through, higher winds aloft interacted with the mountains creating waves in the clouds. The winds also blew the tops off of several clouds, giving a wispy look. The photos were taken in Roanoke, near Valley View Mall.
