( Katie Perkowski | kperkowski@winchestersun.com ) The Winchester Board of Commissioners honors Gene Layne, fourth from left, local nursing home ombudsman, with the Service to Winchester award at its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The award recognizes his service to the citizens of Winchester, including his involvement with children coaching Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, his membership on the YMCA¿Board and his current role as ombudsman. City Commissioner Rick Beach presents the certificate to Layne. ¿There¿s a lot that could be said about the service that Gene has given this community,¿ he said.
