The twisty time-travel tale "Looper" opens this weekend -- finally! If we had a time machine at our command, we would have jumped forward to see the movie the moment we first heard about it. (And then killed Hitler. Because that's what you do with a time machine.)
This long-awaited debut got us thinking about other great time-travel movies -- and arguing about what qualified. After much debate, a few duels, and an unsuccessful attempt to go back in time and change the other person's future, we came up with the following criteria:
- Time travel has to be the central plot -- not an add-on to the plot. (That's why "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" didn't make the list.)
- People themselves have to be traveling in time. (So no "Lake House.")
- Parallel universes need not apply. (So no "Source Code" or "Donnie Darko.")
