The report of a possible gas leak came in shortly after 6 p.m. and the Galax Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. Crews smelled gas in the air and put water on the spilled gas while they inspected the tanks.

Police say the copper tubing leaving the tanks was cut by an individual, allowing the propane to start leaking out.
