Man arrested New Year’s Day following vehicle pursuit in Lynchburg, Bedford Co.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - One person is under arrest New Year’s Day following a vehicle pursuit from Lynchburg into Bedford County.
The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said it got a call from the Lynchburg Police Department just after 1:30 a.m. in regards to a pursuit heading into Bedford County, in reference to an assault and battery investigation.
Bedford County deputies joined the pursuit when the vehicle entered the county going west on Route 460 at a high rate of speed.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect vehicle hit a county EMS vehicle twice while trying to pass it.
Units with the sheriff’s office deployed spike strips which successfully ended the pursuit.
24-year-old Darius Antonio Johnson, of Lynchburg, was taken into custody. He was charged with felony eluding, felony assault and battery of EMS and driving without a license in Bedford County. More charges may be pending in Lynchburg.
