Axton man turns himself in following fatal Martinsville shooting
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - UPDATE: Officers have arrested a 23-year-old Axton man in relation to a shooting.
The suspect, Taylor Paige Thomas, has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, shooting inside of an occupied dwelling and three counts of misdemeanor brandishing of a firearm.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas turned himself in, and is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
UPDATE: Shortly after 1:45 p.m. Monday, the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center received a report that someone was shot at a home.
Jeremiah Jerron Turner, 20, of 200 Lakewood Park Dr. NE in Martinsville, was found dead in the home, apparently suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia for an autopsy.
A white male is believed to have gone to the home and knocked on the door, and was allowed in by Turner. After entering, the suspect was greeted by Turner before the two of them went into a bedroom.
Shortly afterward, multiple shots were fired, and the suspect left on foot. He is described as a white male, wearing a hat, flannel shirt and jeans.
Anyone with helpful tips is asked to contact 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 632-7463. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Crimestoppers program offers rewards of up to $2,500 for information, depending on the nature of the case and substance of the information relayed.
EARLIER: A male victim is dead Monday after a shooting at 200 Lakewood Park Dr. in Martinsville, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The case is under investigation.
