Healthy eating made easy: Meal suggestions for a tight budget
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - While southwest Virginia is still recovering from the pandemic, thousands of people still struggle to consistently put healthy meals on the table.
In our series, Bridging the Great Health Divide, we examined how many families in our region are food insecure. We learned that as many as one in four people in our hometowns could be facing food insecurity. We also looked at the ways people and organizations in our hometowns are working on creative solutions to help people eat better for less.
WDBJ7 also hosted a virtual fundraiser with Feeding Southwest Virginia.
And on the WDBJ7+ Digital News Desk, we’re cooking healthy meals on a budget!
Butterfield also explained their work in local schools to educate local students on healthy eating and about some of the local farms where their food comes from. We also looked at a map of Roanoke which is constantly updated with information about where people can access free or discounted food, use EBT and matching programs, get nutrition education information and more.
