BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Members of the Virginia Tech community: students, alumni, and their families, are getting set to gather for a virtual dance party Friday night.

The live-stream event is being hosted by DJ Chris Kopec.

Kopec is a Virginia Tech alum who, at the start of the pandemic, started hosting virtual parties from his basement.

In the past year, he’s raised more than $2 million for different charities.

Friday night, he’s raising money for the Student Emergency Fund, Inclusive VT, and the Market at Virginia Tech.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Kopec. “It’s always great to represent your university and we’ve tried to represent the school motto, ‘Ut Prosim,’ throughout the pandemic, as well as the thousands of other Hokies serving their communities during this time. But tonight, it’s all about having fun and getting the Hokies together.”

The family-friendly dance party gets underway at 7 p.m.

It’s free to join, but you can donate to the above organizations at Virginia Tech.
