Pipeline protesters arrested after blockade using large wooden duck
GILES COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Four protesters against the Mountain Valley Pipeline have been arrested after they established a blockade in Pembroke, preventing MVP personnel from accessing the construction site, according to Appalachians Against Pipelines.
The Wednesday blockade included a 12′ x 8′ wooden duck, with three people locked to it and another person sitting on top of it.
The blockade was in the same location as another protest in May.
Banners at the rally read, “No Pipelines,” “All Mothers Protect Their Children,” “Mama Duck Says ‘Water Is Everything’,” and “No MVP.”
Virginia State Police say the following people were removed from the property and charged with trespassing, obstructing free passage and interfering with property rights:
- Zachariah R. Benevento-Zahner, 22, of Harrisonburg
- Ethan N. Hughes, 50, no address available
- Dylan V.V. Bremner, 23, of Atlanta, Ga.
- Valerie A. Hahn,52, of Richford, N.Y.
