FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - 136 people in Franklin County, some in custody and some being sought, have been indicted on a collective 262 charges dealing with narcotics and firearms.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division has conducted the investigation over the last several months, seizing about $200,000 in cash, drugs and property related to drug activity.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office says:

Drug use and abuse throughout this country continues to increase at a steady rate. Individuals are overdosing on illicit drugs each day, to the point that Narcan has become a common household “must-have” for both drug users and their families. Our communities are facing the devastating impact of addiction and drug-related crime, with no true alleviation in sight.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to targeting the illegal use and sale of dangerous, illicit drugs to protect all within this county.

Sheriff Overton would like to recognize the significant hard work, dedication, and time that members of this office give to this cause each and every day. Many of these cases go unseen to the general public, although they are very important interventions.

This office will continue to work diligently to detect, charge, remove and protect our community from this drug epidemic.
