ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - One candidate who won his primary with a strong majority was Republican Wren Williams.

Tuesday, Williams defeated longtime Delegate Charles Poindexter for the GOP nomination in the 9th House District.

“We had a strong effort on the ground. We ran a strong campaign. We knew what these voters were asking for,” Williams told WDBJ7 in an interview Wednesday afternoon. “We’ve been talking with them for months and months now. And they were really ready for a change. And they said this is somebody that we want. They want a fighter. They want an advocate.”

Williams said he also hopes to help Virginia Republicans regain the majority in the House of Delegates.

The 9th House District includes Patrick County and parts of Franklin and Henry counties.

Williams will face Democrat Bridgette Craighead in November.
