ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A grant is providing an opportunity to get some cats microchipped for free.

Furever Friends plans to use the grant to focus on microchiping feral cats in colonies or on farms, so if they are captured and taken to a vet or the SPCA, they can be identified.

”Usually, if a feral cat shows up, sometimes they tend to be euthanized,” explained Nancy Sullivan of Furever Friends. “But if they are in fact part of a community or colony, they are given hopefully a free microchip, and that way they will be able to get returned to their colony or to their caregiver.”

The group works with three vets in the area to get the procedures done.
