ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - There are more than 100,000 people on the waiting list for an organ donation - an organ that could save a life.

Here @ Home sits down with one local woman who is on the national transplant list, waiting for a kidney. But that wait could take years. So she’s now hoping for someone to be a living donor.

Takara (TK) Norman talks about her situation, and how she is now in end-stage kidney failure, which has left her weak, exhausted, and unable to do the things she loves.

Her immune system is severely compromised, making everyday life even more challenging.

TK is on the national transplant list.

For many, the wait for a kidney can take years. That’s time she doesn’t have to waste.

Erin Stover from UVA Health shares information on living organ donation.

By simply getting tested to see if you could be a living kidney donor, you could bring hope not only to TK, but to thousands of others in need.

Testing is quick, confidential, and does not commit you to donating. It could be the first step toward saving a life.

Listen in to our conversation and see if you would be a good candidate to be a living organ donor.
