Name released of bicyclist hit and killed in crash with SUV

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Lynchburg Police have released the name of a bicyclist who died after colliding with an SUV in Lynchburg Saturday.
Police have identified him as 55-year-old James E. Jones, Jr. of Lynchburg.
About 5:35 p.m. May 30, 2026, LPD and Lynchburg Fire were called to the crash at Monroe and 10th streets. Jones died of his injuries after being taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.
Police say the driver of the SUV remained on scene and fully cooperated with officers.
The accident remains under investigation by the LPD Traffic Safety Unit.
