Katey attended Liberty University for six years. She graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast-Journalism and again in 2016 with a Masters in Strategic Communications. Of all her school accomplishments she's most proud of her 90-page Master's Thesis entitled: “The Feminist and Patriarchal Themes of Shonda Rhimes Television Shows: Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder.”
In July 2016, Katey got her first job in television news at KHQA, a little station in Quincy, Illinois. During her 8-month stint as KHQA’s morning producer, she fell further in love with broadcasting and telling real stories that educate, entertain and inspire people.
In April 2017, she moved back to Virginia, this time settling down in Roanoke and becoming a part of the WDBJ7 Mornin' team as a producer. Not satisfied with the confines of the newsroom, she ventured out to the New River Valley to become a bureau reporter in April 2018. Once again she fell in love with meeting people in her community is happy sharing those stories back on the morning show as WDBJ7's Mornin' Reporter.
In her free time, you’ll likely find Katey reading books, eating at local restaurants or napping with her three cats!
