Leanna Scachetti is an Emmy award-winning reporter for WDBJ7. She joined the WDBJ7 team in July 2017 after spending two years anchoring and reporting for WJHG/WECP in Panama City Beach, FL.

While at WDBJ7, Leanna has reported on severe weather and continuing crime in the area, and stays on top of high-profile local court cases.

She has earned multiple awards for her work, including a regional Emmy award for her work reporting from the aftermath of Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle and Virginia, plus Virginia Association of Broadcasters first place award for Rise Up, The Virginia Associated Press 2018 award for Best Video journalist/One Man Band, a contributing reporter for a 2018 regional Murrow award on tornado coverage, as well as several professional Florida AP awards, another regional Edward R. Murrow award and a grand prize from the National Broadcasting society.

Leanna graduated with honors from the University of Florida, where she studied Broadcast Journalism and minored in Spanish. While in Gainesville, Leanna worked at WUFT News as an anchor, reporter and producer for the PBS affiliate TV station and the NPR affiliate radio station.

When not at work, Leanna likes to travel, visit state parks, practice yoga, learn phrases in foreign languages and sip coffee with friends. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks basic Brazilian Portuguese. Leanna is also an active skater with Twin Valleys Roller Derby.

Leanna is from Florida but is thoroughly enjoying life in Southwest Virginia!
