BENT MOUNTAIN, Va. (WDBJ7) For the past six years, a restaurant in Bent Mountain has gotten a lot of attention for the incredible food it's serving up. The Bent Mountain Bistro brings the term farm-to-table to life.
Using some of the finest local ingredients, Bent Mountain specializes in delicious barbecue and wood-fired oven pizza.
Chef and owner Benjamin Ward spent nearly a year building the place up to make it a special place for the community to gather. During that time, he sold barbecue on the side of the road to make ends meet.
"We realized there was the need for good barbecue. Really we got hungry one day while we were working on the building,” he said.
Now they're serving up delicious barbecue, utilizing top-of-the line pig from North Carolina, which they then smoke outside of the restaurant.
We recommend you get the barbecue platter, complete with a roll, local corn on the cob, and their special sauces -- Bent Mountain's barbecue sauce and their take on the North Carolina vinegar based sauce.
"Living in North Carolina for almost 5 years, I had a lot of barbecue," said WDBJ7's Josh Birch. "This ranks up with some of the best.”
They're even putting barbecue on the pizza! They use the same wood in the pizza oven as they do to smoke the meat out back. That gives the pizza a slightly smokey flavor that you can't get at other places.
