LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) It’s described as the spot to be for the regulars. Blue Ridge Bagels in Lynchburg is turning heads with their fresh food that’s good to the last bite.
The mastermind behind the restaurant is an unlikely one.
“I taught for 28 years and I was getting close to the end, and I've always wanted to open a restaurant," said co-owner Berry Kane.
So when the opportunity to open up a bagel shop presented itself, Kane and his wife jumped on it.
Specializing in New York style bagels, Blue Ridge serves delicious sandwiches, and makes their own cream cheese if you want the bagel by itself.
“They're New York water bagels, so they boil them there and the water in New York is where you have to get it from," Kane said.
One of our favorites – the French toast bagel with Blue Ridge’s homemade maple walnut cream cheese.
“I’d order this by the bucketful,” said WDBJ7’s Josh Birch.
“We’ve tried different places, and definitely we feel the bagels are the best here,” said Joan McAfee, a regular at Blue Ridge.
“They're the perfect consistency. They're not too hard after they're toasted. They're just good," said Ashley Spencer, another regular there.
If you’re not into bagels, don’t worry. Blue Ridge is also known for their made-from-scratch donuts. Selling around 20-30 dozen on an average day, the donuts offer guest a light, airy, and delicious bite.
To top it all off, try Blue Ridge’s spin on a cold brew coffee. It’s not too sweet, and not too bitter. They even make the ice cubes out of the cold brew so your drink isn’t watered down.
It a perfect, local spot, you’ve just got to try in Lynchburg.
