BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Since the 1930s, Fisher's Restaurant in Bedford has been a gathering spot that serves up really good food. Although the decades pass, the mission at Fisher's remains the same.

The restaurant has been in Lisa Callahan's family since the 1950s. Today, she remains committed to serving home cooked meals bursting with flavor.

"Everything, or as much as we can do here we make it like the old time," Callahan said. "Lots of butter, sugar and fat back, and that’s what makes everything delicious.”

The food is so popular that some people go every day to get some. A big hit is the french toast.

Daniel Villarial traveled the world as a U.S. Marine.

"Every time I have French toast. This is the best French toast I’ve ever eaten throughout the world,” he said.

Don't forget to try the fried oysters. They serve them next to homemade cocktail sauce with lots of Old Bay.

"It is hard to find good oysters in the area. There are very few places you can find good fried oysters, and this is one of them,” said Marie Bailey.

"I grew up around oysters my entire life growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. These rank up with some of the best there," said WDBJ7's Josh Birch.

They also make their desserts homemade at Fisher's, including pies and something called a coca cola cake. A must-try is the blueberry strawberry pie.

"Fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries and topped with a strawberry glaze that I make, and freshly whipped cream,” Callahan said.

Fisher's is at 503 4th St, Bedford, VA 24523. Their phone number is (540) 583-5251.
